The president of the International Bar Association (IBA) and partner of G\u00f3mez-Acebo & Pombo’s Commercial practice highlights that lawyers are key players in many aspects of everyday life, often working to defend rights and freedoms, as well as to limit abuses and inequalities.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The article highlights the figure of Almudena Arp\u00f3n de Mend\u00edvil, president of the International Bar Association (IBA), who emphasises the contribution of the legal profession to global welfare and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to an IBA study, the legal profession generates a direct economic impact of 1.6 trillion dollars annually, but also plays a crucial role in upholding the rule of law and social justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Almudena Arp\u00f3n de Mend\u00edvil underlines the importance of the legal profession’s contribution not only in economic terms, but also in social terms. She stresses that, although legal services benefit economic growth, innovation and education, the rule of law faces continuous threats, even in consolidated democracies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this regard, it urges lawyers to be more active in promoting citizen education on the importance of justice, improving access to legal services and maintaining high ethical standards within the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also highlights the need to close the perception gap about the profession, with only 54% of the population believing in the positive impact of lawyers, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
