Gon\u00e7alo Jardim, Litigation and Arbitration associate, reflects on the Government’s proposal to create a Specialised Arbitration Court for small and medium-sized disputes between citizens or companies and the Public Administration, with decisions within six months, in a Jornal de Neg\u00f3cios article.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Gon\u00e7alo Jardim believes this is a \u2018very positive measure, as it aims to address the chronic problem of the slowness of administrative justice in Portugal.\u2019 The lawyer believes that \u2018we can have quick decisions if these courts are equipped with the human and material resources necessary for the speedy processing of cases.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Gon\u00e7alo Jardim points out that \u2018Despite some positive proposals, the Government’s Justice Programme leaves out essential measures\u2019, warning, in particular, that \u2018the performance of some judicial proceedings by representatives via videoconference should be legally provided for\u2019, and further emphasising that it is \u2018essential to strengthen the specialised training of magistrates and judicial officials\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
