GA_P strengthens its position among Spain’s leading Project Finance law firms

Gómez-Acebo & Pombo strengthens its standing among Spain’s reference firms in project finance, according to TTR Data’s 2025 annual ranking.
The firm ranks fifth in terms of the number of transactions, with 15 advised deals, and ninth in terms of value, with a total volume exceeding €1,000m. Among the transactions that stand out and demonstrate its relevance in the ranking are the advice provided to CaixaBank on the refinancing of Sonnedix España Albero for €596m, and the advisory services to companies of the Ignis Group on a structured financing of €97.6m, aimed at funding photovoltaic projects and refinancing existing debt.
The ranking points to a year of market maturity and consolidation, characterised by the prominence of renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and increasingly sophisticated financing structures, against a backdrop of greater investor selectivity and capital optimisation.

Payment service providers’ rectification of unauthorised or incorrectly executed payment transactions: user obligations
The Court of Justice of the European Union (Fourth Chamber), in its judgment of 1 August 2025, case C-665/23, IL v. Veracash SAS, concludes that a payer is deprived of the right to reimbursement of the amount of an unauthorised transaction if he or she delayed in notifying his or her payment service provider of the unauthorised payment transaction, even though he or she did so within 13 months from the debit date. This interpretation of the Payment Services Directive is applicable in Spain (Art. 43 RDL 19/2018) and appears to be retained in the future Regulation on payment services.
