GA_P strengthens its social commitment at Christmas | Cinco Días

The Fernando Pombo Foundation has mobilised more than 200 professionals from the firm in solidarity initiatives focused on accompanying and supporting vulnerable groups during the festive season.
Christmas has once again become an opportunity for Gómez-Acebo & Pombo to reinforce its social commitment. Through the Fernando Pombo Foundation, the firm has promoted a range of solidarity initiatives involving more than 200 professionals, with a particular focus on accompanying older people and supporting vulnerable communities.
Among the initiatives carried out were accompanying elderly people in Madrid to enjoy the Christmas lights in collaboration with Cáritas, the Solidarity Letters for Valencia initiative in partnership with the San Juan de Dios Valencia Association, and support for people experiencing homelessness in Bilbao, as well as participation in charitable activities in Lisbon. Together, these initiatives reflect an understanding of the legal profession that is committed to society beyond the boundaries of professional practice.

Regulation (EU) 2025/2083 simplifies the carbon border adjustment mechanism in order to reduce burdens as of 1 January 2026. This paper explains the obligations imposed by this mechanism on the importers it applies to and the simplification measures introduced, including the de minimis exemption based on mass for small importers, excluding electricity and hydrogen.

A good transposition of the Women on Boards Directive
Ireland has incorporated the mandatory presence of 40% of female non-executive directors on the boards of listed companies as of 30 June 2026, by amending the Companies Act 2014. Unlike the legislation in Spain, the percentage has been limited to this class of directors.

Royal Decree 214/2025: obligation to calculate carbon footprints, draw up emission reduction plans and publicly disclose the same
Royal Decree 214/2025 does not create a new register, as its title suggests, but rather keeps and expands the one in place since 2014. What is truly new is the obligation imposed on specific companies and public bodies to calculate their carbon footprint and to draw up greenhouse gas emission reduction plans, as well as to publish the same.

Supreme Court judgment on the Campelo wind farm: does it clear the path for wind energy in Galicia?
Supreme Court Judgment no. 316/2025 marks a turning point in the intense litigation surrounding wind energy projects in Galicia. While confirming its doctrine on the public consultation procedure, the Supreme Court clarifies that the fact that several wind farms share evacuation infrastructure does not, in and of itself, establish the existence of a single project for environmental purposes, contrary to what was previously held by the Galician High Court of Justice.

Directive (EU) 2023/2413: the designation of ‘renewables acceleration areas’ in which projects are exempted from an environmental impact assessment
The new Renewable Energy Directive requires Member States to approve plans designating ‘ renewables acceleration areas’. The plans will be subject to strategic environmental assessment, but projects in these areas will be exempted from environmental impact assessment.
