Guillermo Guerra on the government’s control of investments in strategic sectors | El País
Expansión has the opinion of our commercial partner, Guillermo Guerra, on the Government’s control of investments in strategic sectors. This measure was approved in 2020 to prevent large investors from decimating strategic business sectors affected by the economic effects of the pandemic and the government is considering extending it until 2024, with a very different situation in which companies have recovered much of the lost ground.
Guerra points out that “apparently, there is no prohibition (to invest), but subjecting an investment of 10% or 15% in a company to a ministerial process that sometimes takes months, has meant that several of our operations in 2021 and 2022 have been halted, precisely because of the uncertainty of time that this type of limitation entails. At the moment it is very doubtful that there is a basis (for investment control). The circumstances that were the basis for this have disappeared”.
