ENVIRONMENT
At Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, we aim to help mitigate climate change while assisting our clients in this same goal.
Our main office in Madrid has had a voluntary environmental management and assessment system in place for over fifteen years, in accordance with the European EMAS – Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. The environmental impact and performance of this office are documented in an Environmental Declaration, audited annually by an independent body.
Responsible
Consumption
We strive to promote conscious and efficient use of the main resources and materials required for our daily activities, primarily office paper and electric energy. To minimize the use of office paper and its environmental impact, we use recycled paper with a sustainability seal and work towards digitalizing our work processes.
To be more energy-efficient, we have implemented several measures resulting from our energy audits. We also aim to increase the percentage of energy contracted from renewable sources.
Carbon
Footprint
The carbon footprint is calculated according to the IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol standard. In 2023, emissions at our offices were 943.94 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e), a 17.44% decrease compared to the previous year. This reduction is directly related to the waste management carried out in 2022 during the renovation of the Madrid office.
Waste Management
We have a waste separation system to facilitate the subsequent selective collection of organic waste, paper and documents, and packaging and plastics. We also have specific containers for toner and electrical and electronic waste, which are collected by an authorized manager who evaluates them. We also raise awareness throughout the Firm about the importance of proper waste management and recycling through various periodic campaigns.
Sustainable Buildings
Several of our offices are located in buildings with sustainability certifications such as BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology) or LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). In our Madrid office building, there is bicycle parking and charging points for electric vehicles. Additionally, the office has undergone a renovation using materials with sustainable qualities.
