Gómez-Acebo & Pombo launches, together with Mergermarket, the report “Iberia in the Spotlight: Iberian M&A and PE Activity in 2025”
Gómez-Acebo & Pombo has partnered with Mergermarket to produce the report “Iberia in the Spotlight: Iberian M&A and PE Activity in 2025”, which assesses Iberian M&A activity in 2025 and explores where it may be heading in the year ahead.
The report highlights that Iberian dealmaking proved more resilient than the rest of the EU, with 1,631 M&A transactions recorded in Spain and Portugal during 2025, and total deal value rising to €85.7bn (a 55% increase year-on-year).
Among the most active sectors, TMT led the market in both volume and value, while private equity increased its presence across transactions, reaching 381 deals valued at €49.6bn during 2025.
This edition features contributions from our partners Mafalda Barreto, Guillermo Guerra and Álvaro Mateo, who share their expert views on current dynamics and market opportunities:
- “Portugal remains relatively lowpriced and foreign investment is wellaccepted. There is also a great deal of funding coming out of European programmes, as well as from PE.” — Mafalda Barreto
- “Large Spanish companies have been real European champions, and many have dealt very well with the uncertainty.” — Guillermo Guerra
- “PE has been held back by the mismatch between the expectations of sellers and buyers, but that valuation gap began to close last year.” — Álvaro Mateo
This collaboration with Mergermarket reinforces Gómez-Acebo & Pombo’s commitment to providing insight into strategic transactions and market trends affecting Spain and Portugal.
