“Gómez-Acebo & Pombo provides strategic decision-making and environmental support based on a practical perspective.”
Gómez-Acebo & Pombo’s commitment to contribute, from the legal sector, to the common endeavour of sustainable development stems from the business challenge of moving towards sustainability and its legal implications. A challenge, that of sustainable development, to which this Firm is fully committed as an inspiring objective of our long-term growth strategy.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development signed in 2015 by the Heads of State and Government of the member countries of the United Nations represents the international commitment to address the social, economic and environmental challenges of globalisation, putting people, the planet, prosperity and peace at the centre of attention under the slogan ‘leave no one behind’. Through its seventeen Sustainable Development Goals, the 2030 Agenda sets out a framework for action, the progressive implementation of which is and will be a positive transformation of our economy and our society.
This agenda, whose goals are aspirational but non-binding, also gives companies the opportunity to highlight their contributions to global sustainability and offers them the chance to seize new business opportunities associated with the sustainable development agenda. The business world thus faces a challenge, as well as an opportunity, that will affect not only its transparency and information, but also the design and adoption of any future management, investment and financing decisions.
At Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, in collaboration with the Universidad Pontificia Comillas ICAI-ICADE, we are trying to help with training in this area with our joint chair, the ‘Gómez-Acebo & Pombo/ICADE Chair on Sustainability and Law’. The main objective of this chair focuses on researching the change in the economic and social model driven by the new demands in sustainability, covering environmental, social, human rights and governance aspects. In addition, it focuses on analysing and monitoring European and national regulation related to sustainability, as well as international trends in this field. It also addresses the implications of these regulations for companies in various sectors and seeks to develop agile and efficient legal solutions for companies to adapt to these changes.
The regulatory and security implications in legal traffic brought about by the implementation and execution of new public policies both in Europe and in Spain aimed at achieving the objectives of economic, social and environmental sustainability have led us to set up a group of experts whose purpose is to bring together, coordinate and organise the legal services that this law firm makes available to its clients.
Because, if the challenge of sustainability is in itself enormous and overwhelming, no less so is the challenge of providing the necessary legal and regulatory security for its effective implementation. And this is where we want to work to offer, in this new political and regulatory framework of sustainability, our commercial, financial, tax, corporate, labour, criminal, environmental or any other relevant area of legal practice that is of interest to our clients.
