Publication of the «Legal Guide to the Metaverse»
Tecnos publishing house has released the “Legal Guide to the Metaverse,” prepared by a group of lawyers and experts from Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, including: Ángel Francisco Carrasco Perera, Carlos Álvarez López, Pilar Álvarez Barbeito, John Galilea Clavijo, Ángel García Vidal, Lourdes López Cumbre, Reyes Palá Laguna, Ainara Rentería Tazo, and Elisa Torralba Mendiola.
The metaverse is essentially an alternative virtual world that is channeled with virtually no limitation through an artificial intelligence (AI) system. In this way, each user can immerse themselves in an alternative reality to work, shop, interact or, ultimately, connect, via an avatar, to another dimension: that of cyberspace. However, this virtualization presents significant challenges in various areas. The legal world is no exception in this regard, and in fact, it is a central factor that must build the pillars of this new virtual reality, with a centralized domain structure and a user-provider relationship, which prompts us to reflect on digital economy or tokens, among many other issues.
This is undoubtedly essential reading for any professional who wants to delve into the metaverse and learn about some of the legal challenges posed by this “new virtual reality.”
