Filipe Santos Barata
Filipe is a counsel and Head of Insurance of Banking and Finance in Lisbon at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.
He specialises in banking and finance, with special focus on domestic/cross-border transactions, foreign and domestic financial institutions, insurance institutions and blue-chip companies including debt restructuring and syndicated lending, as well as significant M&A work. Filipe also advises on general distressed lending matters and debt and claims trading.
He holds a Law degree and a post-graduation in Securities and Insurance Law from the University of Lisbon and a post-graduation in Business Law from Catholic University of Portugal. He holds a master’s in Legal Science (Banking Law – “As obrigações hipotecárias”) from the University of Lisbon. Currently he is a PhD candidate at the University of Salamanca.
Filipe has been highlighted as a Rising Star in recent years by IFLR1000 for his work and extensive experience in the areas of Banking and Financial Restructuring. In addition, he is also recognised by other prestigious legal directories such as Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as one of the leading professionals in the areas of Insurance and Banking and Finance.
He has participated as author and coauthor in several specialised legal publications, he is a regular speaker at various forums in the field of banking and financial law. Since 2012, Filipe is an invited lecturer at ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics and Management.
