José Francisco Canalejas
José Francisco is a Banking and Finance counsel at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.
He specialises in securities markets law and other financial instruments and has extensive experience in advising Spanish and foreign entities on a range of issues.
He is a member of the Financial Regulatory Department and, in particular, his practice includes structured finance, project and asset finance, issuance and derivatives.
In the field of corporate and regulatory governance, he has acted in the secretariat of various entities subject to prudential supervision in Spain, and has also regularly intervened in different types of administrative procedures and proceedings before the European Central Bank, the Bank of Spain, the National Securities Market Commission and the Directorate General of Insurance and Pension Funds.
He holds a degree in Law (cum laude) from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), where he previously completed a master’s degree in EU Law and a bachelor’s degree in Law. He was Visiting researcher at the EW Barker Centre for Law & Business of the National University of Singapore (NUS).
He is a member of the working group ‘Blockchain and Corporate Law (2). Bigdata, Fintech and the protection of the user of financial services’ (R&D Project PID2022-137502NB-I00).
José Francisco has been recognised in the prestigious legal directories IFLR 100 as rising start, in Legal 500 as Next Generation Lawyer and Best Lawyer for his professional career and experience.
He has participated as author or co-author in a range of specialist publications, covering MiFID II, MAR and other financial market regulations.
