Ana Martínez‑Pina analyses the concept of “Value for Money” and its impact on retail investors | Expansión

icon 6 May, 2026

Ana Martínez‑Pina, Partner in Banking and Finance and Coordinator of Financial Regulation, analyses in Expansión the concept of “Value for Money”, a key principle to ensure that investment products aimed at retail investors offer an appropriate balance between returns, costs and other benefits.

In her article, she explains the European regulatory context driven by the Savings and Investments Union strategy and the Retail Investment Strategy, which aim to encourage savers to become investors while at the same time strengthening the protection of retail clients.

Ana highlights that the costs borne by investors can significantly affect the real value of their investments, particularly in products such as investment funds, unit‑linked policies or structured products. For this reason, upcoming European regulation seeks to ensure that manufacturers and distributors assess in advance whether these products truly deliver value to investors.
