Ignacio del Fraile reflects on the reduction of working hours in Leaders League
Ignacio del Fraile, a partner in the Employment Practice Group at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, analyses the main legal and organisational challenges posed by the reduction of working hours in Spain in an interview published by Leaders League.
The Labour Law partner emphasises that a reduction in working hours should not be viewed as an isolated measure or an internal communication exercise, but rather as a genuine process of business transformation. In this regard, he highlights the importance of first assessing its impact on the organisation, productivity, labour costs and service delivery.
He also warns of the need to approach these initiatives with legal rigour, collective bargaining where appropriate, and clear planning, particularly in sectors where physical presence or service continuity make uniform implementation difficult.
As Ignacio explains, pilot projects, the definition of objective criteria and the adaptation of internal policies will be key to avoiding conflicts and ensuring a smooth implementation.
