Borja Carvajal, Public and Regulatory partner of the firm, talks to Cinco Días about the legislative framework affecting green hydrogen: from the granting of permits, the bureaucratic processes for the production facilities themselves or what is meant by green hydrogen.
“The permitting regime needs to be streamlined. The main barriers to scaling up the production and supply of green hydrogen today are related to administrative procedures. The large number of applications that the administration has to deal with means that it takes a long time,” says Borja.

Directive (EU) 2023/2413: the designation of ‘renewables acceleration areas’ in which projects are exempted from an environmental impact assessment
The new Renewable Energy Directive requires Member States to approve plans designating ‘ renewables acceleration areas’. The plans will be subject to strategic environmental assessment, but projects in these areas will be exempted from environmental impact assessment.
