Mónica is a Corporate M&A partner, Head of the German Desk, Head of the International Board and co-head of Food and Consumer Products at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

She has broad experience on cross-border transactions, corporate, commercial, international and M&A.

She was head of the London office (2015/2018) achieving the Highly recommended recognition in the category London Office of the Year of the British Legal Awards in 2016 as the only Iberian firm among the nominees.

She holds a degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and a diploma in Business Administration from the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid, Spain. She obtained a diploma in Microeconomics from the London School of Economics & Political Science. She followed PhD studies in the Commercial Law department at the Complutense University of Madrid and at the Max-Planck Institut in Munich. She successfully passed the exams for the profession of Patent & Trademark Attorney (Spanish Ministry of Industry and Energy BOE 14/9/98). She completed the General Management Programme (PDG) at IESE.

Monica has been the first woman to be elected President of the German-Spanish Association of Lawyers and was listed by Iberian Lawyer in its InspiraLaw Top 50 Women list 2018. She was trustee of the Fernando Pombo Foundation between 2016 and 2019. She has been consistently acknowledged as Highly Regarded in recent years by IFLR 1000 for her work and expertise in the M&A area. In addition, she has been ranked in the leading legal directories Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 as one of the top professionals in the areas of Corporate/M&A – Foreign Expertise in Germany and Corporate/M&A – Germany (Foreign Expert Based in the UK), as well as in the Food sector.

She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the German Chamber of Commerce for Spain and has participated as author and coauthor in several specialised legal publications.

Mariana is a partner of Tax at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

With broad experience in national and international taxation, she has advised on cross-border investments to Spanish groups and on foreign investments in Spain, as well as in corporate and accounting tax law. She also actively advises family groups within the private client / wealth management area. Mariana has particular experience advising M&A and tax risk underwriters.
She holds a Law and Business Administration and Management Degree from the Comillas Pontifical University – ICADE in Madrid, and a degree in Tax Consultancy from the IE University. Mariana has participated in the Law, development and democracy program at Georgetown University, Washington DC (USA) and in the Finance program at the London School of Economics and Political Science (UK).

María is a partner of Banking and Capital Markets and Head of Vigo office at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.

She specialises in financial market transactions and legal advice to companies. She has advised on joint ventures, administrative concessions, financing projects and financial transactions, as well as on tax lease operations, banking operations in sectors such as construction and automotive.

She holds a law degree from the Comillas Pontifical University – ICADE (Spain). She has prepared the competitive examinations for admission to the Corps of Lawyers of the Courts under the supervision of Mr. Benigno Pendás García. She completed her doctorate courses at the Department of Commercial Law of the UNED.

Mafalda is a partner and head of Corporate and M&A and Banking and Finance, managing partner of the Lisbon office and member of the Board of Directors at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo.  

She has been leading the major operations in the M&A and Banking areas of the Lisbon office, as well as in Restructuring, advising noteworthy international corporations and investment funds. 

Mafalda has a law degree from Catholic University of Lisbon and a postgraduate diploma in Corporate and Commercial Law from the same university and a Tax Law postgraduate diploma from ISG Business & Economics School. 

Recently, Mafalda was recognised in the Iberian Lawyer’s Top 20 Lawyers in Portugal 2024 as a Consolidator for having played a key role in strengthening the firm, fostering growth and fortifying GA_P’s market position.
