Miguel Lamo de Espinosa speaks about Spain as a leading international restructuring hub

Restructurings in Spain could position the country as a leading international hub, according to Miguel Lamo de Espinosa, partner and head of the Restructuring and Special Situations team at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, in comments to El Confidencial.

The new Insolvency Law, together with recent cases such as Celsa, places Spain in a privileged position to attract international transactions. According to Lamo de Espinosa, the legislation encourages agreements that avoid costly insolvency proceedings and offers unique advantages over other jurisdictions: competitive costs, effectiveness, and cultural and legal proximity to Latin America.

If Spain does not become an efficient country in exporting its law in the field of restructurings, other jurisdictions – particularly Anglo-Saxon ones – will continue to do so,” he warns.
