By the end of 2024, the obligations set out in the new European regulation on deforestation will become enforceable, which will impact the import and export to and from the EU of certain products made from cattle, cocoa, coffee, oil palm, rubber, soya and timber. Subject to exceptions, those marketing these products in Spain will have to carry out the relevant risk assessments.
The focus should be on the different obligations that may apply to the actors affected by the regulation along the supply chain, which may vary depending on their typology and position, so it is essential that the roles are clearly described in the contractual clauses of the contracts signed along the whole chain.
What obligations do companies in the distribution sector have, how can they comply with them, what do they need to obtain from the operator, and how can they safeguard their position along the supply chain?
